I'm over at BlogHer talking about a day in my jungle life. Please excuse the crappy job I've done of linking, formatting's gone a bit wonky here. Again.

Man, I see in Fight Club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see it squandered. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. Our Great Depression is our lives. We've been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

It's a great post, thanks for linking it! The part I envy most is the daily dip in the river. I would love to join you!
The 2nd winter I spent in Lithuania -- with no tv, no radio, no internet (this was 15 years ago), and only The Economist in English (gag) -- I used to go to bars and grab random English-speakers and demand they tell me their stories. Personal histories. I was desperate for stories, not entertainment exactly but narrative. Met a lot of people that way, at least.
Some time when you have a chance could you write a comparable "day in the life" for a local woman with a small child? How would her life differ from yours?
It's so great to learn these details of your daily life. (Hmm...that sounded more stalker-like than I'd intended.)
What a wonderful glimpse into your new life.
Thank you.
