A lovely friend comes over and cooks you a delicious meal and after everyone is full you are sitting outside on the lawn when a neighbor walks past who invites you over for a drink so your family walks down the street and sits and talks about travel and children and the world over glasses of red as the sun goes down, kids dirty and happy; strawberry juices streaking down naked bellies....
Summer, old friend. It's nice to see you again.

GACK!!! Why wasn't I invited?
and Summer? Pulease. I'm still hoping for a decent spring.
Wishing you were on my back porch right now, sweets.
Isn't it the greatest!
Sounds very relaxing.
I want to live in your neighborhood.
That brings back memories, good memories.
That sounds fun. Lucky you that it is summer already. I still have another month to go.
Wish I could have been one of the neighbors!
Yes.
Oh! What a nice-sounding evening.
Those moments and times seem to happen when we most need them.
I KNOW.
Oliver came in the house yesterday afternoon sticky from a popsicle, with dirt on his face and a skinned knee.
I had to smile.
That sounds a lot like our evening. Warm Sunday evenings seem to bring out the relaxed side of everyone around here. I had missed these times also.
This is LOVELY. :)
I love this about my neighborhood, too.
And your last few posts...which I am finally catching up on have shattered me.
I just read the "Barney" post, and wanted to comment here, but this one is sooo light, and that was so sad, I don't want to sully the light. So yes, summer, welcome back. And thanks, Jen, for sharing the good, bad, and ugly sides of dealing with homelessness.
a dirty kid is a happy kid
I went for a run this evening. The same cold air that made the stars seem brighter burned my lungs. I smelled wood smoke.
It was glorious.
Ah, yes. Perfect days.
That's the community I imagine you in...
You are going to love Belize.
Peace,
~Chani
Summer, indeed.
I have a nice front porch with old furniture on it and everything. And wine chilling in the fridge. If only some bloggers lived close by.
Sounds like a perfect evening. I'm still getting used to that idea after 3 1/2 years here.
I can taste it and smell it--summer! What an evocative little post...
Can't wait for summer days! Wish we all had Cali weather. The sunny skies in NY are teasing us. As soon as you step outside, the wind steals the skin's heat.
beautiful.
Yes. This. Is. Good.
I'm ready!
It is the best. I revel in my nights lounging about outside, kicking back with a few friends over wine and whatnots. Just like all things natural, my spirit comes alive with spring. This post brought a huge smile on my face, just thinking about you chilling!
beautiful, i love summer
Heavenly. Supurb. Sublime.

SIGH. I'm more relaxed just for reading this. Summer indeed. Seems it has been a long time coming this year.
I wish I were the one dropping by to cook. I make some great Caribbean food ... someday. I hope you end up at my table,
