blog karma

The planets aligned themselves well yesterday - with me blogging about my wanderlust and so many of you generously commenting on yours kept the lure of travel swirling around and around in my head. J-Dog and I talked for a long time about where to go next, and finally decided we could swing 12 days after the first of the year - not long enough for India (I am totally with you on that one, Crazymumma), but it would give us a chance to explore something somewhere a bit closer.

After some Lonely Planet back and forth I think we've narrowed it down to Honduras, Panama, or El Salvador. And then the "how do we pay for it" debate insued. I hate that part. Killjoy bastard money.

But here's where the blog karma comes in, and I am thanking all of you for this tasty morsel....J-Dog unexpectedly got a small bonus last night, and believe it or not, it almost exactly equates the amount for airfare to one of the above destinations.

Game on, travel diabolita. I can't get you off my mind.

Now the only question is where...

So lucky charms, what do you think - Honduras, Panama, or El Salvador?

Oh heck, I don't care where you go, as long as you write about it!!

::sigh:: I'm such a wannabe-traveler. Maybe one day!!

Oh, lucky you!! So happy that you have this good fortune. I don't know what I'd pick. I've never been to any of those places, but would love to go someday. Whatever you decide, just blog about it so we can live vicariously through you!

I'm leaning toward el Salvador.......but agree, that I'm jealous & only hope that you blog about it.

Wow...I'm so envious. I LOVE to travel. It's been a while since I've had a really good trip, though. Husband isn't so much into travelling, but I have managed to drag him to various European destinations.

I've been to Panama (didn't do much exploring, though), and, to be honest, it's kind of boring. I'd go for one of the other destinations - sound more fun. Panama is very American because of the canal.

Thanks for visiting my blog! I'm enjoying reading yours so far!!

I used to work with a great woman from Honduras and she told me so much about it, it sounded wonderful.
I think its great that you value travel the way you do and are willing to spend a windfall on a trip. I grew up in a family that thought travel was frivolous, so we never went anywhere. It can really close you in. Even if you don't take baby, I think kids benefit from wordly parents.

Thanks for the kind words at my blog.

They all sound lovely. Panama is on our list of hopefuls for a Spring trip. I have heard great things about El Salvador and Honduras.

Just wanted to let you know that I've been enjoying your writings here and at SV moms blog. Your honesty is refreshing.

As far as a destination, how could you go wrong with those choices? Plus, I get the feeling that you'd make the most out of any destination. Enjoy!

I vote for Honduras. Great reefs and beaches and probably one of the best Mayan ruins in Central America. Went there on a side trip while visiting Belize and I wish I could have stayed longer to hike in one of the cloud forests.

I have a friend from Costa Rica who travels in Central America extensively. She was last in El Salvador a year and a half ago and said it has not fully recovered from the devastating earthquakes of 2001. Maybe that makes you want to go even more, but I would try to get more recent feedback on that prior to making your decision (if you think that is important).

Which ever one you pick, I am jealous and you will have a great time. Nothing like the hospitality south of the border.

The only thing I have to offer is that my brother did a beautiful painting of Bishop Romero. I know his plan was to find a place to have it hung in El Salvador but I don't know if he actually found one.

Will you be taking M with you? If you take her with you on these trips, I'd love to hear your tips for travelling with little ones.

I hope you post lots of pics and stories wherever you go.

We're opting for Honduras--after Belize we're going to jaunt off into Honduras and fly over Copan in a small airplane to have lunch at the ruins. Can't wait. I have visions of that seen in Out of Africa with Meryl and Robert in the open-cockpit plane flying over the flamingoes. The music is playing . . .

gotta love that good karma...

I'm not much of a traveler, though under different circumstances maybe I would be. That said, my opinion isn't worth much but I'd probably travel to the place that is regarded as the safest for Americans. I'm a wimp like that :)

For some reason, it's El Salvador although I have no good reason to say why. I love blog karma or whatever karma it was, that brought you the extra dough.
Happy weekend!

I have several friends that live in Hondoras and they love it there. It is beautiful, friendly, rich in culture and very real. (at least this is what they say, unfortunately I have never been!) I am sure you will have a wonderful time whereever you go since you obviously see the wonder in it all.

Oh... travel. I have to stop thinking about it. I swear I can feel the safe in the basement where my passport lies dormant start to shake at the mere thought of travel. We're thinking Scotland April 2008 to renew wedding vows in a castle on our 20th anniversary (of being a couple - only 16th wedding anniv. - but I cannot wait for our 20th wedding anniv!) But I wanna go NOW. LOL

Photo blog where ever you go!

PANAMA! Oh, baby. I loved it. I disagree with urban mummy, sorry. What is so great about it? It has incredibly unspoiled rainforest. Spectacular beaches. The best birding in the world; even if you aren't a "birder", what's not to love about gorgeous birds everywhere? Fabulous food.
